Helping Incorporate Research and Manual Techniques into your Massage Therapy Practice!
Today I want to talk with you about responsibility and competency and congruency.
You owe it to the profession and your patients to continually educate yourself on the current understandings.
You can’t afford to just go into work and rely on the old information you were taught in school – however long ago that was.
Things have changed.
Information have changed
And you have to change also.
At this point in my career, I’m skeptical about everything, even what I teach. I’m always re-evaluating the information I pass on.
Challenge yourself on the stories you are telling your patients. Are they congruent with just your beliefs or are they congruent with all aspects of todays evidence and research?
Do the stories you tell your patients about how and why they may be feeling either better or worse after a treatment include just information about the biomechanics of their complaint or are you also including the psychosocial and neurological aspects.
Do you accept the fact that a portion of the positive outcomes you have with your patients are due to the rapport you have with your patients, your dress, how you act, your personality, your professionalism, your knowledge and your skills, your confidence
Go beyond just being an MT, PT, OT, DC. MD.
You have a responsibility to your patient and profession
You have to have competency in how you practice
Are you congruent with today’s current understanding of how the physiology works.
In ending, today with every patient, please think about your explanations, your terminology and your communication.
You are a representative of our community and it’s your responsibility to lift the profession up and treat with excellence.
So go out there today and make a difference in someones life!
