Here's a nice paper documenting that patients with Knee OA pain had global decrease in deep tissue pressure sensitivity and had significantly lower resting pain after treatment of the joint tissues (joint Mobilization). Treatment of just the skin alone (manual cutaneous input) did not provide this same effect. Read the original abstract … [Read more...]
(FREE VIDEOS & RESEARCH) Ligamentous Injuries and Neural Plasticity
Sign up for the Free Videos after the Research! We all have had patients with torn ACL’s and PCL, and Patients that have undergone surgery for partial or total knee replacement. Many of my patients complain of a “give way” sensation or comment on how their leg doesn’t feel like it’s theirs any longer despite having complete stability post … [Read more...]
Massage Therapy for Osteoarthritis of the Knee: A Randomized Dose-Finding Trial
Full Paper here Abstract Background In a previous trial of massage for osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee, we demonstrated feasibility, safety and possible efficacy, with benefits that persisted at least 8 weeks beyond treatment termination. Methods We performed a RCT to identify the optimal dose of massage within an 8-week treatment … [Read more...]
Manipulation of Dysfunctional Spinal Joints Affects Sensorimotor Integration in the Prefrontal Cortex: A Brain Source Localization Study
Neural Plasticity Volume 2016 (2016), Article ID 3704964, 9 pages http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2016/3704964 “The prefrontal cortex is known to be a key structure responsible for the performance of what is known as “executive functions”. Executive function is the mechanism by which the brain integrates and coordinates the operations of multiple … [Read more...]
Nociceptive sensory innervation of the posterior cruciate ligament in osteoarthritic knees.
Abstract INTRODUCTION: Although the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) is considered to contain not only proprioceptive but also nociceptive sensory fibers, there is a lack of information about nociceptive sensory innervation of the PCL. We hypothesized that the PCL has constant nociceptive sensoryinnervation, suggesting the possible source of … [Read more...]
